Geocaching – An Outdoor Treasure Hunt

A high-tech,worldwide, outdoor adventure treasure hunt.

What is Geocaching?

Geocaching is basically combining hiking and treasure hunting into one. Geocaching.com describes it as “…a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices. The basic idea is to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, outdoors and then share your experiences online. ”

If you enjoy hiking, you’ll love Geocaching because it provides more of an adventure than simply hiking. It gives you a purpose and destination on your hike. You see, when geocaching, you’re not just walking around – you’re on a mission to find a hidden treasure using GPS technology.

How to Find a Campground Near You

Google is going to help you find a campground.

It seems that everyone is using the Internet for almost everything these days. Heck, I’m using it right now to share a quick little tip on how to find a campground near you!

Searching for campgrounds near Green Bay, WI

Anyway, whenever I ask friends if they want to go camping, they always respond with this question, “Where?” After a short discussion I end up doing a quick Google search to see all the nearby campgrounds. As I was doing this the other day I realized that not everyone knows about this quick and easy tool to find a list of campgrounds that are nearby.

Here’s the quick and simple way to find campgrounds near you (or a location in which you would like to go camping). You want to do a Google map search (click on the “map” link at the top of the Google page) for the phrase “campgrounds near [your city, State]“. Just insert the name of the city that you want to find campgrounds near.

Doing an Internet search like this should yield a list of all the campgrounds in the surrounding area. However, you might end up with some search results that don’t quite match up to what you’re looking for. You can further narrow your search results down by adding quotation marks (“”) around the word campgrounds.

By doing this, you are forcing the search engine to only provide results that have the word campgrounds in the title. This is a great way to find more campgrounds in a particular area that you might not have known existed.

Tip: If you click on the “zoom-out” icon on the left side of the Google map you will see more campgrounds. Just hover over any of the red icons on the map to see more information.

There you have it! A quick simple little tip that can save you time when searching for a new campground.

If you have other tips for finding campgrounds please share them by leaving a comment.

See you at the campground!
